Welcome and thank you for visiting my website.
I've been blacksmithing full time since 1986. I started out with craft items and gradually worked into ornate architectural ironwork. Along with making railings, I've forged and heat treated lots of tools for my shop. Over the years I've made thousands of throwing tomahawks and hundreds of knives and other tools for the fur trade re-enactors.
I started making knives when Dad thought I was tall enough to use the bench grinder and grind knives out of hacksaw blades. I forged my first real knife in high school shop class.
After watching R. B. Johnson demonstrate liner lock folders a couple years ago, he kindly let me spend some time with him in his shop. I've been hooked on making folding knives since. I plan on making some automatic knives in the near future.
I make most of my own Damascus using a rolling mill, a 24 ton hydraulic press, and a 165# air hammer. The steels I presently use are 1095, 1080, 15N20, and L-6. I also use pure nickel for Damascus.
For knife handles I prefer using mastodon ivory, mother of pearl Sambar stag, wood and other natural and man-made materials. I forge, cut, grind and file all the parts for these knives in my shop from blank pieces of material.
